Healthcare Professionals

August 03, 2016

Sanofi interacts with health professionals on many levels on a daily basis to ensure we are developing and enabling access to treatments that enhance patients’ and carers’ lives.

We are proud of the relationships and interactions people across the company have with health professionals and healthcare organisations and we are committed to open and transparent working practices.

Sanofi is focussed on meeting the needs of patients, through medical innovation, disease prevention and access to healthcare for all. The health professionals and healthcare organisations we work with are at the forefront of patient care; providing us with independent and expert knowledge about how patients manage their condition and the challenges the health professionals, their patients and carers face. This expertise contributes significantly to Sanofi’s efforts to improve the quality of patient care, treatment options and patient outcomes.

Collaborating to help develop the best medicines

Collaboration and partnership between pharmaceutical companies, health professionals and healthcare organisations has helped develop life-saving medicines and long been a positive driver for advancements in patient care and the progression of research.

We work together during early scientific research and throughout development in the interests of delivering and advancing high-quality patient care. Typical areas of collaboration regarding research include designing and running clinical trials and participating in medical & scientific advisory boards. Advisory boards cover scientific and/or healthcare-related issues. They help pharmaceutical companies to better understand the external environment, therapeutic area, scientific data, use of medicines (approved or in development), clinical and medical asset strategies, or unmet medical needs.

These activities help ensure medicines are developed in the areas of greatest unmet need and help us to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and the NHS.

Partnering to bring benefits to patients

As well as helping with research, working with health professionals helps us to understand how a medicine would actually be used in practice. This enables us to provide appropriate information and education programmes, for clinicians, patients and carers, to support the introduction of a new medicine, ensuring the best outcomes for patients and the NHS.

Typical areas of collaboration include participating in medical & scientific advisory boards, speaking at and chairing events or meetings for Sanofi, and helping to educate other health professionals on the latest developments.

We are also increasingly undertaking Joint Working Programmes; they are becoming a vital way in which to collaborate with NHS partners.

The Department of Health and the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industries (ABPI) Code of Practice defines joint working between the NHS and the pharmaceutical industry as situations where, for the benefit of patients, one or more pharmaceutical companies and the NHS pool skills, experience and/or resources for the joint development and implementation of patient centred projects and share a commitment to successful delivery.
