Research & Development
January 21, 2013
Our Research & Development (R&D) strategy focuses on the innovations and technologies that enable us to respond to patients' unmet medical needs. We have a rich development portfolio of projects, which include innovative medicines, biotechnology products or vaccines.
Operating through acquisitions, partnerships and close scientific collaboration with academia and research institutions, Sanofi explores new research methodologies such as biotechnologies, nanotechnologies and biomarkers to identify projects that may lead to discovering potentially valuable new medicines in our priority disease areas: diabetes, oncology, opthalamology, infectious diseases, elderly patients and ageing, immuno-inflammation, fibrosis and tissue repair.
Our objective is to develop products tailored to the specific needs of patients in different parts of the world. Taking a holistic approach to patient care, we work to extend our product range to treat all stages of a disease, from prevention to various stages of treatment. This also supports pharmacological approaches by developing services and technologies to boost the efficacy of treatment and enhance patients' quality of life.
Of the 65 projects we currently have in our research and development, 17 are in Phase III or have been submitted for approval.
