Sanofi ‘Students of the Year’ 2017/18

Each year we offer one year student placements for undergraduates as part of their degree. At the end of the 2017/18 placement, we held a farewell lunch to recognise their tremendous contribution of our students during the past year.

This included our newly launched Student of the Year award, where we acknowledge exceptional performance. This year, amongst fierce competition, 3 students truly excelled and demonstrated the Sanofi values. Congratulations to Jake, Anna and Jess!

There were numerous nominations received – we would like to thank all of our 2017/18 students and with them the best of luck in their final year!

Sanofi is committed to the development of young talented individuals, for information about our ASPIRING LEADERS GRADUATE PROGRAMME for recent graduates, please see the ‘Graduate Programme’ tab. All available vacancies are advertised at www.sanofi.co.uk/careers.

Why did our students choose Sanofi for their placement year?

I joined Sanofi as I had heard about the products being generated by the company and the impact these products have on patients’ lives. I have a background involving science and healthcare and I wanted to explore all the scientific jobs and industries there are. I was hoping to avoid working in a laboratory but still use my science knowledge and I was able to do this by working at Sanofi.  The pharmaceutical industry is eye-catching because that there is a wide range of people that work within the industry (ranging from scientists to business employees).  – Jake, Marketing Student Placement

Sanofi’s ethics and global reach made the prospect of completing a student placement with the company attractive as I explored options.  I saw early on the importance of completing a placement with a company of Sanofi’s scale and realised that I could create an extensive network of contacts both in the UK and European affiliates. With a diverse range of roles, I endeavoured to find one where I wished to specialise following the completion of my degree and build connections with representatives in these functions. I was also attracted by the forward thinking nature of the company and how the company invests in its workforce offering a host of wellbeing initiatives.Thomas, HSE Student Placement

What were the key things our students learned during their time at Sanofi?

My placement proved a catalyst for personal development, as I was forced out of my comfort zone. I came to realise a lot about myself, my attitude towards work and ways of dealing with challenges when they arise unexpectedly. I came to realise the importance of investing in my own development and taking projects on as my own - Thomas, HSE Student Placement

The number one skill I learnt whilst being at Sanofi was people skills. You are constantly communicating with a wide range of employee with different backgrounds and cultures, whether it’s face-to-face or over the phone. My placement year has prepared me for future work within this industry as it allowed me to gain an early experience of what life is like inside a global pharmaceutical company, whilst changing mind-set from being a student to a full-time employee. On top of that, I have been able to gain experience in many different fields within the industry, such as working with the medical and marketing teams, enabling myself to understand fully which area I find most interesting.  – Jake, Marketing Student Placement

The project management, communication and team working skills that I honed during the placement will be of benefit when I return to the workplace following the completion of my degree. I also came to understand the importance of good communication and the benefits of having a cohesive and cooperative team  - Thomas, HSE Student Placement
