Who we are
September 26, 2011
Sanofi is a diversified global healthcare leader. Our mission is to be known for innovation and be the partner of choice to those committed to improving people's health.
To meet the challenges facing the pharmaceutical industry, our strategy is based on three key principles:
Increasing innovation in R&D
Pursuing external growth opportunities
Adapting the company to future challenges
Increasing innovation in Research & Development
By focusing on patient needs, we aim to become the most productive R&D organisation in healthcare. To this end, having completely reviewed our portfolio, we are evolving our decision-making process to create an innovative and dynamic culture, with a clear strategy for accessing the best science from around the world.
Adapting our structures to meet the challenges of the future
Recognising the need to change the industry model in order to generate more sustainable growth, and having identified the resources and capabilities required, we are active in markets as diverse as the patients themselves. New technologies open new avenues of research. Vaccines, biologics, branded generics and consumer healthcare products require a different approach, but we have a distinguished history of adapting to change and seizing new opportunities through innovation.
Exploring external growth opportunities
Diversification is essential to our future because the traditional small molecule medicines that constituted our core business are now vulnerable to patent expiry. While of course maintaining our valued presence in our traditional markets, we intend also to help meet future global healthcare challenges with a broader platform of offerings that are more affordable and accessible to patients, especially those with fewer economic resources.
Patient-centered
We put patients at the heart of our activities with the aim of improving their lives
As a global diversified healthcare company, Sanofi has a wide range of prevention and treatment solutions to fit the needs of individual patients. Listening to patients informs our decisions and actions: we understand the needs of patients, payers and healthcare providers in order to define the value we can add for each of them.
Not only do we seek more effective solutions to improve human health, but also more affordable and cost-effective therapies for all patients. We take an innovative approach to providing sustainable access to medicines to people in developing countries.
One way of realising our commitment is by forging partnerships with patient associations, which gives us valuable insight into their needs and expectations through dialogue and the exchange of know-how. We partner with patient associations to address the wider issues of the patient journey, such as prevention, awareness and coping strategies.
Recognising the crucial importance of patient-centred healthcare, we place patient needs at the centre of healthcare policy discussions, irrespective of therapeutic area or geography.
